How do Origami Owl Designers make money?

If you want to earn money by selling Origami Owl, you'll need to play by their rules. Unlike traditional small business owners, as a member of a direct sales company you'll need to abide by certain rules.

It's important to note that as a Designer, you're not an employee of Origami Owl. You're an independent contractor.

How much can I make selling Origami Owl?

According to the 2018 Income Disclosure Statement, 93% of individuals selling Origami Owl earn an average of $82.22 annually.

While the company sells itself to prospective Origami Owl Designers as a way to achieve financial dreams, the facts do not align with the promotional message.

But, let's say you decide you think you can defy the odds. So you decide to sign up as an Origami Owl Designer. How can you earn money?

Commission-based sales

A common misconception about direct sales companies is the idea of commission-based sales. The way to really earn money in direct sales is to level up. If you recruit more people into your downline, you'll earn more money. Thus, your product isn't just jewelry; your product is also opportunity.

Is it wrong to sell an opportunity?

That's up to you to decide.

Personally, we feel it's probably messed up to convince a friend or family member that they can earn a tremendous amount of money when it hasn't been proven to be true. But, hey, it's up to you.

Ok, ok, but what can you earn selling Origami Owl products?

So Origami Owl sets the commission at 20 – 40% per product.

For argument's sake, let's be generous and say you earn 40% commission per item sold.

How many products do you need to sell in order to earn minimum wage?

Well, let's look at their Best Sellers. And let's also consider what you need to use their products.

If you want to buy charms and accessories, you need a Locket Base. Let's assume you sell a mid- to high-range base for $32. Let's assume you also sell a chain with that base for $16. And then let's assume you sell some Stardust for $10 and two charms at $6 each, for a total of $12 for the charms.

So your total product is $70. And, like we said, we'll be generous and assume every sale is a $70 sale.

The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25/hour. Let's assume you want to earn the equivalent of a full-time, minimum wage job. That's 37.5 hours/week, or approximately $1,178/month, before tax.

To earn the equivalent of a minimum wage job selling Origami Owl, you need to sell 43.82 products, at $70 each, per month. Let's round it up to 44 since you can't sell 0.82 of a product.

To put this in perspective, if you wind up selling $70 worth of the product described above 44 times, consider repeat customers. If they have a locket and chain, they may only need more stardust and charms moving forward.

If you sell just stardust and two charms, that's $22 in product. You'd have to sell 139.43, or 140, $22 transactions per month to earn minimum wage.

Do the math for yourself here.

Is it possible to earn an income selling Origami Owl?

Of course it'spossible. But is it realistic? That is a very personal question you need to ask yourself before purchasing a starter kit and calling yourself a Designer.

With any endeavor, it's important to set realistic expectations.

Ok, but in your opinion…is selling Origami Owl a good idea?

In our opinion, as a business opportunity, we would not choose this for ourselves. The company does a great job on their marketing and promotions. The products they sell are cute. And it's an enchanting business proposal. However, the facts are the majority of Origami Owl Designers do not achieve what we believe to be "financial freedom".

But what does that mean to us? It means the income earned by selling Origami Owl is likely not enough to replace a minimum wage job. Which is what most young people, stay at home moms, single moms, or anyone looking for extra income is assessing when considering a direct sales gig.
